Ofsted Conference - Improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in East Midlands schools
7th July 2017 - venue TBC
Outcomes for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds remain unacceptably low across the region. Typically these children start the EYFS behind their more affluent peers, catch up during key stage 1 but fall behind again at key stage 2 and still further behind during their secondary education. This pattern is particularly true of children from White British families and in areas of high general deprivation. Schools in the East Midlands have been aware of this for some time and some good practice has resulted in pockets of improvement across the region.
Therefore we will be hosting a conference for system leaders, and specifically for NLEs, NLGs and SLEs on 7th July with venue TBC. We will share research, observations and inspection findings about the challenges and successful approaches to improving outcomes for children from disadvantage backgrounds. The conference will also consider how effective practice could be fostered, developed and shared amongst schools in teaching alliances.
